What's left

Unspeakable truths lie
strewn stones on woodland paths
traces of our lives
prehistories calcified
stopping stones
bathed in late afternoon
sun streams
glistening unconscious
aroused sighs
gods aloud
letting go
we shudder
distracted

On Cooking

“You make
the best
peanut butter
sandwiches
in the whole
Okefenokee Swamp,”
my dad would say to my mom
no matter
what she cooked
or burned cooking.
Then, they would kiss.
We kids had never been to
the Okefenokee Swamp
so we figured it
was bigger than
the whole wide world.

Clouds over Paris

              A foggy morning
              makes me imagine
              possibilities.
