Tree Science

The Earth is a billiard ball that would trundle
around the universe and singe its whiskers on
the sun or freeze its tootsies on the edge of the
galaxy if it were not for trees. Trees swing from
the stars and clutch terra firma in their talons
to hold our planet in place. They exhale
sunlight into our lungs and turn dirt into
apples, peaches and pears. When we get lost,
they drop coconuts on our heads. When we get
too big for our britches, they drop banana peels
beneath our feet or pelt us with almonds.

Thanking a Kajoolaboo tree in Ta Prohm with my son.
