In Winter Grow Seeds of Spring

In Winter Grow Seeds of Spring

My neighbor Nietzsche

is peachy not preachy.

He never complains if there’ s a ruckus

for nowadays, he’s not really among us.

But in the winter of the year eighteen eighty-three

he lived up the street, not far from me

working on Thus Spoke Zarathustra part three

where the plucky philosopher examines life

and first notes things repeat in endless strife

as petty humans rely on power to measure

good and evil – a foolish endeavor.

Yet walking and thinking a seed of an idea

blossoms and rambles like bougainvillea.

Our lives are not haphazard eternal recurrence

but songs to celebrate eternal return and light.

Our dark battles within are not without purpose

But help us to grow beyond deepest woe at midnight

And find eternity’s grace in joy that preserves us.

My neighbor Nietzsche

is peachy not preachy.

He never complains if there’ s a ruckus

yet it feels like maybe he is among us

walking, pondering, reasoning still

examining thoughts and how we guide our will.
